Founded in March
2004 and based in Kandy, NCHSL is a private
sector association of craftsmen and women who
have come together to uplift their business,
while maintaining the traditions of Sri Lankas
handicraft industry.
NCHSL is also based on the chamber movement in
Sri Lanka, with its culture of working together
to achieve common goals. It is open to all
companies island-wide wich are engaged in the
prodution of handicraft items.
Above all, the chamber is a self-organizing
body, where members engage actively by meeting
regularly to discuss common issues and plan
their activities.
Sri Lanka Handicrafts Boardwas
established on 17th January 1983, under the
National Crafts Council & allied Institutions
Act No. 35 of 1982.
The Sri Lanka Handicrafts Board better known as
“LAKSALA” is a state corporation under the
Ministry of Rural Industries and Self Employment
Promotion is set up to preserve and develop
traditional skill of the craftsmen. The Board is
dealing with nearly 3500 leading master
craftsmen/entrepreneurs who are producing
handicrafts item at Rural/Cottage industry
level. LAKSALA is the only state owned
handicraft marketing organization in Sri Lanka
deals with provision of training to craftsmen
and marketing and export promotion of
handicrafts. The board handles 140 Training
centers, 23 sales outlets and 14 provincial
purchasing points for the purpose of achieving
its objectives.
The Kandyan Arts
and Crafts Industrial Centre manufactures, deals
and exports traditional Sri Lankan handicraft
items such as Wood Carvings, Traditional Sri
Lankan Masks, Stoneware, Batiks, Curios,
Silverware, Brassware, Paintings and Antiques
etc.
